Master of the laboratory

Yuri Muravitsky is a Russian director, playwright, actor, laureate of the National Theater Award «Golden Mask».

Yuri Muravitsky: «I do not want to use the word “master”, the “curator” is more precise. I also don't want to call the course a “course”, it's the laboratory, where we together will be engaged in search,
to search for answers to the most important questions for this profession. This is due, in particular, to the fact that we almost completely abandon the linear system of education and move on to a modular system. That is classes are taught in blocks (modules). During the semester each teacher will hold one intensive: these will be master classes of different duration, on average one month. As a result of each master class, students will come to a definite result.

It is important that among the teachers of acting, are different people with different visions of the profession. This allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the profession and the world in general. Also in the curriculum there is an occupation in scenic speech, vocals, lectures on the history of the theater, a large number of bodily practices: plastic, modern dance, stage movement, defile lessons. An important feature of our laboratory is the use in the actor's learning of performative practices. In addition, to special disciplines the students of the laboratory will attend “streaming” lectures. It's general lectures about the history of cinema, history of arts, philosophy, psychology, which is absolutely necessary».

Acting school

It's not a secret that today the actor must be
a generalist, who has a high degree of awareness and flexible perceptions.

Actor can be not only a guide of all ideas of different directors, but also be a full-fledged co-author
of the stage play. Actor can help the director create a picture of the role, he doesn't limit his range of interests to the framework of the profession and the professional community. Actor always open to everything new, actor is capable of reflection and, as a consequence, of conscious actions in the shot and on the stage. Actor feels the time in which he lives, actor can speak the language of this time and actor is ready to critically evaluate the surrounding reality.

Unfortunately, the traditional education of the actor is mostly based on one method, one acting school, invented already too long ago and only slightly transformed over time. Today this isn't enough. That's why our students study different methods, different acting schools, they meet professionals, who make fundamentally different theaters. As a result, this approach gives not only the most complete and voluminous idea of the profession, but also expands the boundaries of students possibilities, as an actor and as a person too.

Learning process

Training is based on a modular system. With this approach, the teacher conducts an intensive leading to a certain result during the semester.

An important part of the training is the work of students with texts. And it's not just about the classics, but also about the works of modern playwrights and screenwriters, authors with whom the actor will then meet on the stage or on the film set.

By the way, students of Muravitsky's Actors Laboratory at the Moscow School of New Cinema are also waiting for a meeting with the real spectator. And, perhaps, rather fast. The Moscow School of New Cinema has been opened  Students theater, and the previous course of the acting faculty is already familiar to the theater spectator of Moscow, at least for the play «24 plus», going to the Theater.doc, participating in the readings of the festival of young dramaturgy «Lyubimovka»; the performances of «Muravitsky choir» at various venues and events and performances at the closing of the very exhibition of Serov in the Tretyakov Gallery on the Krymskiy val.

During the semester each teacher spends one intensity, the duration of which on average
is one month.
